Tenement Staircases

One of the most defining aspects in the urban landscape of Budapest are the tenement houses of the downtown with their quintessential French courtyards, which were built mainly between the 1870s and the 1930s. Each of these buildings contains a hidden little world, often featuring amazingly beautiful corridors and staircases constructed in various styles, such as luminous bauhaus with geometric shapes, or mysterious winding staircases from the turn of the century. There is also a true variety in the state of these buildings. We have mainly collected well-kept, renovated or modernized buildings, but the vast majority of this city’s buildings are quite rundown, which has its own special elegant vintage atmosphere.
