Communist Square

Location Library Hungary

My Selection: 0

In the heart of an old Hungarian Soviet Era industrial city, this stunning square creates an intimidating and awe inspiring atmosphere with its large towering buildings, which were built in the 1980s to house a local museum. An authoritarian, repressive state power comes to mind due to the windowless facades with its secrets covered behind geometric patterned surfaces. The unified faded yellow colour of the square provides a perfect location for film and photography projects that are set in an utopian future or the past, for example in a country of the former Communist Block. The wider surroundings of the filming location is also authentic because it consists of large concrete housing blocks, thus providing an entirely historically accurate backdrop that could also easily double as such as present day North Korea.
