Located in the outskirts of Budapest, this vast abandoned mine was created by miners centuries ago. Its structure is visually striking due to its large scale and sheer geometric forms. It is a labyrinth of monumental and bleak halls carved out of stone with large surfaces and harsh edges. During the world wars, this mine was used as a bunker, but currently, it does not have any other function apart from facilitating film shoots and concerts. It has often been used as a film location by Hungarian productions since the 1960s and more lately by large scale international productions as well. The mine’s owner has amended it so that it can provide the facilities needed by productions, offering filmmakers the exceptional opportunity of being able to shoot in an old underground mine with almost sound stage-like conditions.
