The Italian fashion brand Calliope structures its campaigns around distinct themes rather than relying solely on the traditional F/W and S/S model. This thematic framework was a natural fit for Budapest, a city defined by a wide range of architectural styles. Calliope’s approach also shaped how we planned and organised this project from the earliest stages.

A core element of our approach for this photoshoot was the use of “location areas,” a method refined by our location department over the years to streamline productions in Budapest. Instead of treating each spot as an isolated location, we defined compact areas of the city where multiple suitable options for the campaign’s various themes could be reached from a single base. This approach allows us to plan shoots more efficiently and increase the production value of each shooting day.

While the collection itself remained the focal point, capturing the city’s urban flow was also part of the shoot.

The campaign had several themes, including “Evento Serale”, “Back to Work”, “Edge Culture” and “Western Urban Style (Urban Prairie Reverie)”, each requiring a distinct visual environment. The combination of our location-area method and the agility of a smaller crew made it possible to cover all these themes with a streamlined single-unit production setup. It also made the shoot cost-efficient without compromising creative integrity.

One of the main reasons many productions choose Budapest is its grand turn-of-the-century architecture. This visual character proved to be an ideal match for the “Evento Serale” theme, which highlighted the collection’s more elegant pieces. The theme also made use of the Danube as a defining backdrop, together with the city’s classic metal bridges and natural colour palette that aligns well with typical fall tones.

Budapest’s Castle District provided a refined stone backdrop for the “Evento Serale” theme, aligning well with the campaign’s elegant aesthetic

The “Back to Work” theme, on the other hand, allowed us to highlight a lesser-known, modern side of Budapest. The city doesn’t have a clearly defined large modern district, but several contemporary areas and individual complexes do exist. Thanks to our location-area approach, we were able to easily integrate the best of these modern spots into the shooting days.

Projects like this demonstrate how well-suited Budapest is for a wide variety of shoots. Beyond its own recognizable style, the right production approach can reveal much more of what the city has to offer. When we factor in all the other strengths of Hungary, it becomes clear why the country is a popular choice for photoshoots.
