Széchenyi Thermal Bath

The Largest Bathhouse in Budapest

The Hungarian capital city is often called the City of Spas, thanks to it being the record holder capital city in the world with nine thermal baths. Among the 9, the largest and arguably the best known is the Széchenyi Bath. Built in the early 1900s, its area originally was only 6200 square meters, which then was extended several times throughout the years adding further buildings and pools. By today, the complete area of the bath surpasses 26,000 sqm (280,000 sqft) with 3 outdoor and 15 indoor pools, and countless service buildings. Although the spa has been extended and renovated quite a few times during the past century, it still has kept its original Neo-Baroque style throughout the complex. This is equally true of both the outdoor and indoor pools, the halls and changing-rooms, as well as the building’s exterior.

The bath’s building surrounds the three outdoor swimming pools completely
The style and size of the indoor pools vary greatly, offering many different creative options
During the building’s constant modernisation and renovation, extra attention was paid to keeping the original features of the interior intact
Given the scale of the bath, the complex has numerous changing-rooms all with unique styles
The statues and the facade provide sophisticated elegance to the bath’s outdoor areas

The bath is not only a popular destination for tourists. Such Hollywood productions have shot here as Gemini Man with Will Smith and The Spy Who Dumped Me featuring Mila Kunis. Progressive Productions has also visited this bath to shoot the American TV show The Bachelor.
