The city of Győr, situated halfway between Budapest and Vienna, has been an important center of trade in Hungary since the 18th century when it was elevated to free royal status. Győr prospered in the 19th century, hence the city features a well preserved historical downtown which is a truly attractive location for film and photo shoots. Another great feature of Győr is the canal of the River Danube running through the city with beautiful bridges over its banks. After World War II several state-of the-art modernist buildings were built around the city, making Győr an ideal location for shooting scenes set in the ‘60s and ‘70s in an authentic architectural environment. Thanks to it being a university town and the Central European Center to one of best known German car manufactures, today Győr is a thriving city with bustling economic scene and colorful cultural life.
