In contrast to many other large cities, a unique characteristic of Budapest is that it still has abandoned late-19th-century buildings with authentic interiors. Although decades of deterioration, the World Wars and modern estate development have greatly decreased the number of these buildings, there are still many unique abandoned locations scattered all over the capital. These monumental structures, the majority of which are more than a hundred years old, are often used by both international and Hungarian productions time and time again as film locations. Since there has been an increased interest lately in these buildings, many of them developed production-friendly services in recent years. The combination of the effects of time, neglect and these grandiose 19th-century buildings with their exceptional interiors, provides some truly unique locations for films of various genres.
