A beautiful university library with gothic rib-vault ceilings and iconic reading lamps, or a public library with grandiose halls and stunning details are just as inviting locations in Hungary as a private cabinet of an old palace complete with a marble fireplace and bookshelves running from floor to ceiling. While most of these grand libraries were generously designed for the use of students more than a hundred years ago, there are others which were private palaces of aristocrats that were later converted into public libraries so that anyone could enjoy reading amongst the luxurious wood paneling, spiral staircases and gold decoration.
